First things, First - Why Coffee?
Coffee has been a favorite go-to for self-care enthusiasts. It’s most famously known for helping to reduce cellulite and often makes it into monthly wellness publications across the globe. When you use it on your face it’s great to buff all those pesky lines and dry skin. Why? Caffeine from coffee beans can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The antioxidants they carry help prevent and fight off free radicals and oxidative stress damage. In addition, antioxidants improve the elasticity of our skin. Bonus! Coffee, has anti-inflammatory properties which reduce inflammation of the skin, and calm the redness symptoms on your skin.
So let’s dive in and whip up this bad boy up!
Ingredients (3-4 Applications)
1 cup ground organic coffee
1 cup organic sugar or salt
1/2 cup organic coconut oil
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon (optional)
1 tablespoon vanilla (optional)
It is important to note that some people experience allergic reactions to the ingredients list after skin exposure. I recommend testing on a small area of your skin first.
Cinnamon has antiseptic properties and if you have an open cut or wound dusting a pinch of cinnamon over it will kill bacteria so the wound heals faster. This ingredient can also cause irritation to sensitive skin so be sure to test as recommended above!
Vanilla also contains B vitamins, including niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6, and pantothenic acid. All of which help to maintain healthy-looking skin. Vanilla Bean Extract contains Vanillin, a poly-phenol with powerful anti-oxidant properties (you know those things that help with redness, splotchy spotting, or irritation) Why is this so great? Anti-oxidants help to protect against free radical damage and the effects of environmental stresses on the skin!
Here are the steps:
Melt coconut oil and allow it to cool but not solidify.
Stir until the ingredients are completely mixed.
Apply the mask to your face using a soft brush. (An old makeup brush will work just fine!)
Relax and let the mask sit for 20 to 30 minutes.
Rinse the mask off with warm water.
Admire your skin in the mirror for as long as your heart desires!
Turmeric face masks may leave a slightly yellow-tinted hue on your skin, even after you’ve rinsed off the mask. This is nothing to worry about—a thorough cleansing and a little time will get rid of the discoloration—but it’s worth keeping in mind. So, in other words, you don’t want to try a turmeric face mask right before your big date or some other special occasion.
Also, Turmeric will stain just about everything it comes into contact with. This includes your clothes and towels. Be cautious when cleaning your face and use dark-colored fabrics.
